Camera Angles

Camera Angles:

Frame
Angle
Movement

The close up - shots are to show details and want to show expressions in the face and close in on more important people, props etc.

Long shots - show the entire body of the subjects and are more useful to be able to see the setting/environment

medium shot - you can see roughly half a person. Its usually used when the person is either holding something,or using something or if body language is still important but the person doesn't have to be mobile.

Single shot - has one person in frame
Two shot - two people in frame
etc...

pov shot - The camera points to whatever the character is looking at so you want the audience to feel as though they were that person.

Camera Angle:

Eye Level: The camera points straight ahead and typically uses this to remain objective.

Low Angle: The camera points up from a lower angle its used to make the subject appear bigger or more dominating.

High Angle: Camera points down from a high angle and makes the subject look diminutive and weak.

Top Angle/Birds eye view: want to show the topography of a location.

Dutch Angle/tilted shot: Camera is not really level draws the attention tot he fact that its not a balanced frame so something is literally of kilter.

Over the shoulder shot: confrontational, so you have one person facing off with the other person.

Motion:

Pan and Tilt - The camera stays in one place and it goes left or right. The importance of this is the audience should feel like a spectator watching something objectively from  a distance.

Track, Dolly or crane - tracking shots move sideways either left or right. A dolly moves front or back. A crane goes up and down.

Zoom - enter or leave a space without making an emotional statement.

Random motion - The camera shakes around a certain point in a random manner typically used to provide motion or energy to a shot to make it come alive

360 degree shot - showcase the subject with the camera moves around the subject.

Summer homework

Media Task 1:

The use of using his name would make fans of his previous work or just him in general want to watch it as he was a big star at the time.
Action fans would want to watch it as the gun hints to violence and action.

Media task 2:

The camera angle is shot from a low down angle than upwards or directly towards the character that the viewer is seeing so we can see the face of the actor angled above. Therefore the viewer gets a feel of the perspective of the person being hit which makes the viewer question who is being hit and why as we can not see them. This also helps make the punch feel so much more meaningful and real as the viewer feels like its coming towards the screen.

The scene is dimly lit in a mysterious and dark setting which makes the scene feel more intense and serious and could of had of been used to help portray a darker side to the story to keep the viewer engaged and wanting to watch the series.

The actors makeup has been done to create the effect of blood running down one side of his face from next to his eye, this then helps support the idea of a violent fight that has broken out and left injuries. However as the actor is wearing a casual outfit of a black hat and a jacket which makes him seem like a normal person who would be going around there casual every day, this has then created a sense of mystery of why he would be hitting someone and getting himself into a dangerous and violent situation.

The music that is played throughout the whole clip is very fast pace and lively,  just like the scene is very fast pace and also just like how each scene is very short and all over the place, cutting from scene to scene which helps grab the attention of the viewer because they are never really sure about what’s going on completely and this makes the show seem very lively and action packed and interesting.

The scene is shot with no props in it, however because the scene has the use of violence through the punch, a prop isn’t really necessary to create any tension or mystery because the violence and action is already doing that in the clip. the simplicity of the fighting in the scene is already enough so a prop would not be needed in the scene. We only see one character in this part of the clip, however we still know that another character would be present at this time because a fight has clearly broken out between the character we can see and someone else. Also because the viewer would feel like we are watching this character through another characters eyes because of the camera angles that have been used during this scene.

Media Task 3:

How each newspaper presented the results of us leaving the EU.

The daily mail: They had a more positive view and celebrated that we had left the EU and made it seem like a good decision and a positive thing

however

The Guardian: They had a more negative view of leaving the EU and highlighted all the bad things to come from it like they wanted people to be worried about whats to come.

Are you beach body ready and This girl can comparison:
The banned are you beach body ready campaign gives you an image of a woman and is trying to promote that the woman on the cover is the ideal body type, and just in general how you should look. Its not inclusive of majority of people and is very bias.
However this contrasts to the This girl can campaign which highlights woman of all different ages, races, religions etc. as being strong and independent in who they are and is very inclusive of all types of people.

analysing youtube videos

It had a slow tone and the music is also very slow paced and simple however it slowly has the pace of them speaking pick up.

The industry the trailer comes from is from bbc two.

The target audience for this show based from the trailer is people who enjoy more historical series and darker more tense plots. Because of the violence in the trailer it would be assumed that its aimed for an older audience (15+ maybe) and for fans of more violent plots.

the representation is all white cast of middle class people at the time mainly a male cast is seen in the trailer and middle aged characters are seen.

genre

setting: space in the suture because of all the space aircrafts and because their outfits are strange and the weapons they have are unusal.

themes: war, battles, fighting, death, good vs evil

icons: lightsabers, guns, space aircrafts

Narrative: the masked figure is the villain and the other characters we see are fighting battles for good to defeat him.

Characters: a masked figure in all black who we assume is evil, two full body characters who are both white males wearing all white outfits so we assume are heros they look like they are in their early 20s . We also see a female in all white who also looks like she is in her early 20s. we see two robotic characters who seem very futuristic and modern.

Textual Analysis: title put on bottom third of poster looks like the words are moving away (getting further) like the movie feels like its further in the future. Its written in black font with stars in it makes it seem very sci-fi.

Semiotics

Semiotics: the study of signs. Or of anything that stands for "something else".

Denotation - What we see when we look at an image.
Connotation - What we understand from this image (what other meanings it has).

Stuart Hall came up with the theory polysemia which means many readings.

  • prefered reading - How the creator wants the audience to read the media text.
  • Oppositional reading - Where the intended meaning of the text is totally opposed by the reader.
